Solomons Airlines, the National carrier of the Solomon Islands, is proud to announce a significant expansion of its Pacific network with the introduction of a second direct flight between Brisbane and Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu, beginning 5 April 2026.
This strategic enhancement will see a new Saturday service launched just in time for the Easter holiday period, complementing the airline's existing Thursday flights. The 2-hour and 50-minute non-stop service provides a critical link for Australian travelers and air freight directly into Vanuatu's northern gateway.
A Game-Changer for Santo's Tourism Sector
The introduction of a second weekly service is expected to give a strong boost to Espiritu Santo's local economy. As the country's largest island and a popular international holiday destination, Santo stands to benefit significantly from the increased access.
The updated schedule allows visitors to book convenient seven-night stays, meeting strong demand for week-long holiday packages and supporting sustainable tourism growth. The additional capacity will benefit a wide range of tourism-related businesses, including accommodation providers, tour operators, dive centres, handicraft sellers, and local restaurants.
With easier direct access, travellers will have more opportunities to explore Santo's renowned attractions, such as its famous blue holes, the unspoilt Champagne Coast, and cultural experiences like the Leweton Cultural Village.
Local tourism operators and the Espiritu Santo Tourism Association have welcomed the expansion, describing it as a timely boost for the industry that restores confidence among international partners.
Strengthening the Partnership with the Vanuatu Government
The expansion highlights a strengthened partnership between Solomon Airlines, the Vanuatu Tourism Office (VTO), the Espiritu Santo Tourism Association (ESTA), and the Vanuatu Government to rebuild and enhance international air connectivity. By maintaining and growing these routes, the airline is directly supporting the government's objective of achieving sustainable economic growth in the Northern Islands.
In addition to tourism, the services play a critical role in air freight, enabling the efficient movement of goods between Australia and Vanuatu's northern provinces. With Luganville being one of only two international airports in the country equipped with full immigration facilities, the direct Brisbane–Santo route is essential for decentralising international arrivals and strengthening regional infrastructure.
Flight Schedule Information
The new Saturday service (IE726) will operate alongside the existing Thursday flight. It will depart Brisbane at 9:00 am and arrive at Santo-Pekoa International Airport at 12:50 pm local time. Return services will operate via Port Vila, providing convenient connections for both business and leisure travellers.
